Mexico City Mayor's Approval Hits Low, Disapproval at High

A probabilistic sample of residential and mobile phones was conducted in the 16 mayoralalties of Mexico City. The approval rating for the work of the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, was 61% in March, two points less than in January, according to the El Financiero poll, and the lowest level of support recorded so far in the current capital administration. Disapproval of the work of the capital's head of government reached 37%, the highest level for that indicator, 12 points above the 25% recorded a year earlier, in March 2025. According to the survey, public insecurity is seen as the main problem in Mexico City by 59% of those interviewed. This represents a 20-point decrease from what was observed in January, when the proportion citing insecurity as the main problem reached 79%. More than a decrease, the perception of insecurity seems to have returned to previous levels, as 61% and 60% of mentions were recorded in September and November, respectively. The survey indicates that the best-rated aspect of Brugada's government is social support, with 69% positive opinions. This is followed by economic management and housing, with 53% and 51% favorable opinions, respectively. The policy of public concerts and events also records 51% of very good or good opinions. The Mexico City Metro, works for the World Cup, and public transport have between 45% and 47% positive opinions, while security is at 43%, but with a slightly higher proportion of negative opinions, which reached 45%. Among the most negative aspects are the water shortage (55% unfavorable opinions), the handling of organized crime (77%), corruption (80%), and extortion (also 80% negative opinion). In almost all areas, the trend of the last two months indicates a drop in positive opinions, in some cases by up to 10 percentage points, such as in social support. Methodology: Survey in Mexico City conducted by telephone to 500 adults from March 25 to 28, 2026. With a 95% confidence level, the margin of error for the estimates is +/-4.4%.
